In 2015, Försäkringsbolaget Löf, which is owned by Sweden's regions, received 15,600 reports of malpractice.

Increases in Region Kalmar

Within Region Kalmar, the number of notifications increased by around 100 between 2015 and 2021, something P4 Kalmar was the first to tell.

In the case of Kronoberg county, however, notifications did not increase at all during the same period.

Hear the chief physician at the County Hospital in Kalmar, Gunhild Nordesjö Haglund, comment on the increase in the clip above.

SEK 525 million in compensation

In 2022, Löf paid out SEK 525 million in compensation to patients who were mistreated.

- Generally speaking, we see that the number of people with compensated injuries has increased.

At the same time, it is important to remember that the frequency (i.e. the number reimbursed per amount of care provided) has not increased to the same extent, says Carl-Johan Linde, who is press and communications manager at Löf to SVT Småland.
