Online dating is the most common way to form new relationships today.

Now more and more older people are also starting to find dating sites, says Lotta Löfgren, professor of sexology at Malmö University.

- Especially for the elderly, online dating can be extremely important.

It is often more difficult to get out and the social circle is smaller.

Even if online dating does not lead to a relationship, it can create new contacts and provide confirmation, she says.

Older women seek kind men

But there are problems with online dating too, not least for older women who date men.

- The old gender roles are strong and live on in the dating world.

Men generally look for younger, physically attractive women, says Professor Lotta Löfgren and continues:

- Mature women, on the other hand, look for secure and kind men.

It can be difficult to find a good partner to match with.

“Fun to date”

Ulla Axelsson, 83, is still looking for her dream prince.

Meanwhile, she enjoys compliments from men she chats with and she hasn't given up hope.

- It's fun to date, she says.

The online dating boom is a program by Vetenskapen värl and will be posted on SVT Play Sunday, March 5. See what the research says about how online dating affects us and our relationships.
