Meta, the owner of the Facebook platform, will reduce the prices of Quest 2 headsets and advanced Quest Pro headphones, the company announced on Friday.

The price of "Meta Quest 2" will drop from $499.99 to $429.99, while the price of "Quest Pro" will drop to $999.99 from $1499.99.

Meta lost $13.7 billion from Reality Labs in 2022, the business unit responsible for building the ambitious company's technologies for the metaverse world.

The “Realty Labs” unit generated $727 million in income in the fourth quarter of last year, and $2.16 billion in revenue for the entire year of 2022, while its revenue in 2021 reached $2.27 billion, including sales of Quest glasses.

Meta announced the Meta Quest Pro 2 headphones last November, but their high price made them out of reach for most consumers, while the lower price might make them more attractive.

"Our goal has always been to create affordable devices for as many people as possible to take advantage of everything the company has to offer in the field of virtual reality," the company said in a statement.

Pricing changes will begin rolling out on March 5 for MetaQuest 2 glasses.

US and Canadian buyers will see the new Quest Pro price on March 5th, while the discounted price for the rest of the world will appear on March 15th.
