The guiding was supposed to be done away with already in December last year.

But due to bad weather it had to wait.

During Thursday, the second walk was completed.

- We also had one last Saturday that was fully booked, but then the wind was 17 meters per second so only a few people came, says Emma Rydnér, world coordinator at Mörbylånga municipality.

The guided tour is organized by the municipality in collaboration with Naturum Ottenby.

- I think many people have never heard of the sand fox even existing, says Ida Hansson, director of Naturum Ottenby.

Formerly under water

The place is unique.

Just 50 years ago, the sand dunes were under water.

The area is usually protected from human footprints, but during the winter months it is permitted to walk along the white sand.

- This sand reef was probably an underwater reef once upon a time and it was involved in quite a few shipwrecks in the 19th century.

After every autumn and winter storm, new objects come up, says guide Göran Andersson.

Storms wash ashore old rubble

Among other things, coal has been found from a ship that crashed at the site when the sandbar was under water.

Göran Andersson also talks about rubbish of the more modern kind, which has been washed ashore from cargo ships in the Baltic Sea.

- It's a little smaller these days, mostly glass bottles.

We have found liquor bottles from the eastern states, it is quite common, he says.

The next walk will be organized on December 13 later this year.
