The losses of the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria last month are still unfolding day by day, as the Mufti of the Turkish state of Malatya, Shahin Yildirim, announced that the Kahramanmaraş earthquake damaged 420 mosques and destroyed 25 other mosques in Malatya.

In a statement broadcast by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, today, Friday, Yildirim explained that the places of worship in Malatya were damaged by the earthquakes.

He added that the city includes 968 mosques and that the earthquake damaged 420 of them, and destroyed 25 mosques, according to preliminary estimates.

Yildirim also indicated that the earthquake damaged Quranic education centers and buildings belonging to Dar Al Iftaa as well.

On February 6, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed by thousands of violent aftershocks, killing tens of thousands of people and leaving huge material damage.
