The tragedy of suicide shook southern Lebanon after a young man - Musa al-Shami - shot himself because of the difficult living situation he had reached.

And the Lebanese National News Agency reported this morning, Thursday, that the body of the young man - who was born in 1991 and hails from the town of Jarjoua - was found near his house in the town of Deir Al-Zahrani, and she was shot.

A recording spread in which Musa recommends his friend to take care of his wife and two children, after he revealed to him his intention to commit suicide.

The security forces did not comment on the incident or resolve the cause of death.

The digital platforms were filled with a message from Musa to his friend "Alloush", in which he spoke in a sad and intermittent voice, asking him to take care of his family, especially his daughter Jouri, and telling him that he could no longer bear it amid the deteriorating living conditions.

Musa said to his friend, "I did not find a person other than you to write to. You are the one I know the most, who has a strong heart and knows how to behave. I am now in front of the building and I will commit suicide. Calm down and take care of yourself, with Duaa, Jawad and Jouri. They are a trust in your neck."

Moussa confirmed - while addressing his friend - that he could no longer bear it, and that the burdens had become greater than his capacity, asking everyone to forgive him, and not to speak ill of him, again asking him to take care of his family after his death.

message and interaction

And the Lebanese Depositors Association (non-governmental) reported - in a tweet on Twitter - that Al-Shami "committed suicide, leaving an audio message to one of his friends to take care of his children, as he stated that the reason for suicide was the living situation, and that he could no longer secure the sustenance of his children."

The suicide incident has become the focus of discussion among the pioneers of electronic networks, who saw that it reflects the extent of despair afflicting the Lebanese.

Bloggers blamed the ruling class for the despair and torment that accompanies Lebanese youth, which is unable to save the country from its financial situation, while others expressed that the idea of suicide is a psychological factor and awareness must be spread among all age groups.

Commenting on this, independent MP Melhem Khalaf tweeted, "The voice of the young man # Musa al-Shami gnaws at consciences and shakes the thrones of these rulers (..)! Where will you escape from the intensity of anger in the face of an entire people crying out for oppression!"

Journalist Asaad Bishara wrote: "# Musa_al-Shami has no limits to this pain."

As for the lawyer and political activist Wassef Al-Harak, he said: For our anger and oppression to explode is not enough.. We have to confront the perpetrators, the thieves, the mercenaries of the authority and the dead by all means, because that is a legitimate defense, and if there must be an explosion of anger, oppression and injustice, then it must be in the face of these people.

In turn, journalist Iman Shuwaikh said that "the one who commits suicide is not the poor, but rather the one who suffers from a mental illness. Psychological treatment is a necessity."

Since the financial crisis of 2019 afflicting the country, the rate of suicides has increased in Lebanon due to the financial hardship resulting from the deterioration of the living situation.

According to an article published by the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar last September, Lebanon witnessed 83 suicides during the first seven months of 2022, at a time when at least one person commits suicide in Lebanon almost every two days.

The newspaper indicated that the varying numbers and statistics from the official authorities indicate an alarming increase in suicide rates, and the economic factor is at the forefront of the incentives affecting the mental health of the Lebanese.

As the numbers indicate a clear rise as a result of the living and social conditions and the successive crises experienced by the Lebanese, many succumb to these pressures with death.
