The first event broadcast live by the streaming platform, the program could allow the actor to make fun of his aggression suffered in front of the eyes of the whole world during the Oscars.

Netflix is letting the suspense hang over the content of the show, which will take place on Saturday and is titled "Selective Outrage" -- "Indignation Sélective".

But Chris Rock did a world tour last year during which he included several jokes about the infamous slap that made headlines.

And with the 2023 Oscars, which will take place on March 12, approaching, the opportunity seems too good to pass up.

Last March, Will Smith took to the stage at the Oscars and hit the comic, after a tasteless joke about his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith's, alopecia.

The comedian refused to file a complaint in the process and has never publicly addressed this incident, outside of his shows.

"March 4 will be a hilarious night," Robbie Praw, Netflix vice president of comedy, said in a statement.

"Our goal is to bring the best in stand-up to our members and this (...) live event further reinforces all the ways we continue to invest in the genre."

The world's leading streaming platform, Netflix has attracted millions of viewers away from traditional television.

But the group lost subscribers for the first time last year.

This temporary growth crisis - the number of subscribers started to rise again - prompted him to take various measures to reverse the trend and diversify his offer.

The company has notably decided to experiment with live broadcasting.

In addition to the Chris Rock show, Netflix plans to offer live sports on its platform, according to the American press.

A way to respond to its rivals Disney + and Amazon Prime Video, which already offer their subscribers sports or live concerts.

In early January, Netflix also announced that it will broadcast live in 2024 the SAG Awards, the film awards presented by the influential union of American actors.

The streaming giant was already hosting an annual comedy festival in Los Angeles.

But the shows given during this event were not broadcast live.
