Finland has agreed to NATO legislation

After the Riksdag's approval, all that remains is for President Sauli Niinistö to sign, then everything is clear from Finland's side.

Before the decision, Niinistö has said that he will sign as soon as possible.

After that, all that remains is for Turkey and Hungary to ratify the accession protocol, and Finland is a full NATO member.

Want to avoid delay

Previously, the idea was that the NATO legislation would be hammered out after the Finnish parliamentary elections in April, but now they want to avoid that it drags on or that the issue becomes more politicized.

- I think it is very important that Finland decided to discuss this process before the Riksdag election so that the Riksdag, which has made the decisions about membership in the past year, also votes on the legal basis, Haavisto told TT.
