- The aurora attracted people out into the night and for a while at 10pm you could even see it dancing in the sky over Anundshög.

It was fantastic, says Daniel Brodén.

The northern lights are actually solar wind particles streaming out from the sun.

Sometimes they flow so far that they enter the atmosphere around the Earth.

Then the solar wind particles collide with atoms and molecules in our atmosphere.

The collisions become movements of light that we experience as aurora borealis.

Seeing the northern lights this far south is unusual and is due to something called a coronal hole, an area around the sun where it is colder and therefore leaks out solar wind particles.
