IFK Umeå boxing leases its premises at Sandbacka from Umeå municipality, which in turn leases it from a private property owner.

Now the municipality has canceled its lease and instead offered the boxing section a training room in a basement at Gammlia.

To get to it, you either have to take stairs or two elevators, which makes it difficult for the association's function group, whose members and coaches are in wheelchairs.

- We have calculated that it would take 45-50 minutes to get everyone down to the training room.

If it were to start a fire, we have no escape route and then we would have to carry our members up.

This is such a deterioration for that group that we consider it discrimination, says Anna Danielsson, chairman of IFK Umeå boxing.

Distress call posted

Now the association is trying to solve the local issue by turning to private property owners.

An emergency call has also been posted on social media.

- We are a club that has been running for 80 years and has a large business from kids up to elite athletes.

We are very keen to continue with it, so we hope to find a venue so that we are not standing here this summer and cannot conduct training anymore, says Anna Danielsson.

"Not kicked out"

The municipality believes that the association has received a heavily subsidized rent until now.

When the opportunity arose to house the association in the municipality's own premises, it was decided to terminate the external lease agreement.

- The association has an offer to stay at Sandbacka so they are not kicked out, but then they have to negotiate rent with the private property owner and apply for a local grant from the municipality, says Stefan Hildingsson, leisure director.

According to him, the funkis group has received an offer to hold ground level at Gammlia, should they accept the offer.

- I don't know what they need to conduct their training, but we have generous areas on the ground level, says Hildingsson.
