According to the latest official reports, the earthquake in Turkey and Syria in early February crossed the 50,000 dead mark.

In Syria, the death toll is 5,951 dead, and the latest Turkish death toll, provided on Sunday by the Turkish Public Disaster Management Agency (Afad), is 44,374 dead.

More than 50,000 people perished in Turkey and Syria in the February 6 earthquake, according to a report obtained by AFP from several sources, and reassessed upwards on the Syrian side.

In Syria, the death toll is 5,951, according to a report compiled Tuesday from cross-checks from several sources.
