Pepe Valencia

, brother of

Diego Valencia

, the sacristan assassinated on January 22 in the attacks that occurred in

Algeciras (Cádiz)

by Yasin Kanza, the alleged perpetrator of this jihadist attack in which several people were also injured, has assured this Saturday that he feels " totally overflowing with affection" received this month.

"We really are very grateful to everyone and we can only express that now we realize what they wanted my brother," he said in statements to journalists during the concentration that was held this Saturday in memory of Valencia, when a month has passed since his murder.

His brother has thus shown his gratitude to all the people who have given them their support this month and has assured that the family feels "totally overflowing with affection" in the face of all the samples they have received from neighbors, municipal officials, people from the church,

police

officers

and the media.

The Cádiz municipality of Algeciras has hosted a rally in memory of Diego Valencia this Saturday, which was also attended by the mayor

José Ignacio Landaluce

.

"We are with the family, we are very sorry and we logically try to accompany them in that pain and minimize the discomfort they may have on a day-to-day basis, giving them a hand in what is within our possibilities," he assured.

For Landaluce, Diego "means a lot to us", as does the Valencia family and for this reason, "we will continue to remember him and do things well".

However, the mayor has regretted that the Senate has refused to issue a statement rejecting the attacks and supporting the family.

"In the end, the minority groups do not realize that what is important here is respect for a good person, a man of faith who was killed for his beliefs, that the important thing is to be with the family and recognize that situation that in Algeciras we live together in peace and harmony and respect", he added.

In his words, minority groups think "of their land and not of Spain. They think of their ideological interests instead of thinking about how important it is to be human, family, life and freedom."
