In Sörmland, the anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is commemorated in different ways.

Raise the flag

Today Gnesta municipality raises the Ukrainian flag outside the municipality building and holds a minute's silence in the municipality's activities.

The municipality of Nyköping commemorates the anniversary by letting the Ukrainian flag continue to be raised in front of the state house.

At the same time, they take the opportunity to mention various organizations that Nyköping residents can get involved in if they want to help Ukraine.

The flag is also raised in Strängnäs municipality and the Swedish Church organizes a concert for peace in the cathedral with music and texts in both Swedish and Ukrainian.

The yellow-blue flag is already flying outside Gröna kulle municipal hall in Katrineholm.

Illuminates facades

In Oxelösund, the municipality, in addition to raising the flag and keeping a minute's silence, will highlight the Pride.

It is a 15-meter-high sculpture in Oxelösund's fishing harbor that will shine in the yellow-blue colors of Ukraine's flag.

Sending photos and greetings to the embassy

Some municipalities, for example Eskilstuna, will send in a pre-recorded video with the chairman of the municipal board Jimmy Jansson (S) and pictures of the flag raising to the Ukrainian embassy in Sweden.

In the clip above, Ann-Sofie Wågström (S), the chairman of the municipal council, explains why Eskilstuna commemorates the anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
