• Guerra Sánchez agrees in kyiv to study with the allies "air aid" to Ukraine and to send four more Leopards that are not yet operational

Differences within the government regarding the war in Ukraine are sharpening one year after Russia's aggression.

The Minister of Social Rights and Secretary General of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has described as an "error" having sent weapons to defend the country because she "has not helped Ukraine at all."

This ruling by the minority partner clashes with the opinion of the PSOE, other countries and European institutions, for whom the military aid provided is precisely what has allowed Ukraine to resist Putin's attack this year.

In addition, Podemos' criticism comes just 24 hours after Pedro Sánchez traveled to kyiv and announced that Spain will contribute to the Ukrainian resistance by sending up to 10 Leopard tanks.

For Belarra, "it is clear that having contributed to the escalation of the war is a mistake" and that the countries, instead of continuing with this strategy, would have to put all their "efforts" and "will" into opening negotiations to achieve a halt to the fire.

"It is essential to put at least as much effort into peace as some are putting into war," she criticized.

In a statement in Getafe (Community of Madrid), in the company of his party colleagues

Alejandra Jacinto

and

Alba Leo

, he asked for a reflection on what has happened this year and asked "whether having contributed to the escalation of the war with all that shipment of material has served or not to help the Ukrainian people, which is what we all want".

Her response is that the "best" way to stop Putin is to open a negotiation endorsed by international organizations, as the UN and the Pope have requested.

The Minister of Social Rights has regretted that in Spain there is "a media ecosystem of unique thought" on this matter and has claimed that Podemos is going to "raise its voice" to request dialogue and negotiation.

Thus, she has defended that Spain has to take advantage of its "leadership role" in Europe to lead these efforts and join voices like those of countries such as Colombia, Brazil or Argentina.

"We need to stop the loss of human lives. It is a drama that we cannot sustain any longer," she said.

As he did a week before, Belarra has cast doubt on whether there will be Spanish soldiers in the Ukraine at some point.

"First they told us that we were never going to send offensive material. Then yes, that we had to send anti-aircraft missiles, tanks and now fighters. What's next? Spanish soldiers in Ukraine?" He said.
