While it has been almost a year since the war in Ukraine began, this conflict has had several consequences on the world economy, particularly with inflation.

This invasion led by Russia therefore impacts the wallets of French households who pay between 30 and 40 euros each month per household.

On Friday, it will be a year since the war in Ukraine began.

Europe's military and financial aid bill has been estimated many times.

But the economy service of Europe 1 has calculated the daily cost of the war that French households pay each month.

Because the conflict has caused inflation to jump and French households are therefore paying for it directly out of pocket.

450 euros per household in 2022

In December 2021, the Banque de France predicted an increase in household purchasing power in 2022 of 0.6 points.

A year later, she noted that he had finally deteriorated by 0.6 points.

We can therefore estimate the loss of purchasing power linked to the war in Ukraine at 1.2 points.

Concretely, taking the average disposable income of a household (some 3,100 euros per month), war therefore costs between 30 and 40 euros per household each month.

Over the year 2022, the bill then reaches 450 euros per household.

It is largely the food item that weighed on the household budget.

In 2022, prices have increased by more than 13% according to INSEE.

But there is also fuel.

Also according to INSEE, the prices of petroleum products increased by more than 16% last year.

These increases are more marked and therefore suggest the cost that the war in Ukraine would have had via inflation if the State had not acted.

Revaluations and tariff shield have reduced the bill

In fact, if the war does not ultimately weigh more on the portfolio of the French, it is the effect of the various revaluations.

The minimum wage was increased by 1.8% on January 1, 2023. Retirement pensions were increased by 4% in July 2022 when unemployment benefits took 2.9%.

This is why the decline in purchasing power is more limited than inflation might have led to fear.

And then, above all, there is the effect of the shield on gas and electricity prices.

To take the measure of its effectiveness, it is necessary to look at the expenses of the State.

The device cost him 58 billion euros in 2022. This is as much as French households did not have to pay.
