War in Europe Biden's trip to kyiv: months of preparation, 10 hours by train and notice to Moscow
Guerra España will send six Leopard tanks to Ukraine and is considering the possibility of sending more
For the second time since the start of the war in Ukraine, the President of the Government,
Pedro Sánchez,
has traveled to
Kiev
to show his support for the country invaded by Russian troops
.
On this occasion, his visit coincides with the first anniversary of the start of the armed conflict in European territory.
As on his previous trip -in April 2022- the Spanish president has traveled to the Ukrainian capital on a night train from Poland.
There he will hold a meeting this Thursday with his Ukrainian counterpart,
Volodomir Zelenski.
Sánchez thus follows in the footsteps of US President
Joe Biden,
who this week made the same 10-hour journey to Kiev by surprise.
During his visit, he announced an additional $500 million in aid to
Ukraine
and announced that he will approve
more sanctions
against Russia.
The head of the Executive of Spain spoke by phone with Zelenski on January 5 and promised to maintain his "main effort" in training the military and sending "military material", but not large weapons.
Subsequently, he has agreed to send six Leopard tanks.
