Amancio Amaro Varela
(A Coruña, 1939), a historic Real Madrid player, has died at the age of 83
after a long
unspecified illness.
This was communicated by the club, which took the opportunity to remember all the feats of the Galician player,
including a European Cup and nine leagues.

A quality striker and number 7 nicknamed 'El Brujo', Amaro began his career defending the
Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña
shirt between 1958 and 1962. However, his splendor came when
he became part of the legendary Real Madrid squad of the 60s
, a team he led along with
other great
Spanish footballers such as Paco Gento.
Not even his retirement in 1976 made him stop being a white legend.

As soon as he hung up his boots, the Galician achieved a
great milestone as coach of Castilla,
a Madrid subsidiary.
In 1984, they managed to win the Second Division championship, being the only second team to obtain said title.
From the benches he created what is known as

giving opportunities to players who would later become legendary, such as
Butragueño, Míchel González, Miguel Pardeza, Rafael Martín Vázquez and Manolo Sanchís

to his longtime girlfriend
and now her widow,
Consuelo Vicente Noya, he had
six children
with her
: Óscar, Belén, Amancio, Patricia, Marcos and Claudia

He was also very close to his brother Juan Carlos and
his five grandchildren,
one of whom, Jaime, plays as a
midfielder for Juvenil B
at Real Madrid.

"Jaime is not
in the Real Madrid youth system because of his last name,
he is playing there because of his desire and dedication," Amancio Amaro said at the time about his grandson, who was 12 years old at the time.
Although none of the player's children has been a professional footballer, Óscar Amaro, who is also the father of the young youth squad, runs the
player representation agency 7Players.es.
As for his personal life, his wife gave an interview in the 70s talking about the character of the athlete.
"He is a simple man
, father of a family and exemplary husband,"
she recounted.
"He is very
homely
. The concentrations, the trips, the matches, take him a long way from us, but whenever he can he likes to enjoy the family tranquility.
He has a sudden temper
; he gets angry frequently, but it goes away immediately", expressed too.
His son Óscar has recently made a statement in the same vein.
"His humility stands out.
He was not very aware of what he really was because of the humility he had. He was
a model of a father and a person,
I have no words, "he said.
His philosophy was very clear: it doesn't matter what you are, it doesn't matter if
you're a plumber or president of the government... but you have to be the best,"
he concluded, thanking the expressions of affection received for his death.
As for his daily life, those close to him say that he was a person who
enjoyed food,
especially seafood.
He was also
affectionate and friendly,
although strict with his children.
Proud of his humble origins in Galicia,
he used to spend the summer in Oleiros with his entire family
.
In this small Galician town he had a house located in Santa Cristina, an urbanization where Sandra Ortega, daughter of Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera, also resides.
