After the inspection that the Swedish Work Environment Authority carried out at Älghult School in November last year, they pointed to serious deficiencies in, among other things, the ventilation and the electrical system, but also noise, bad odors and moisture damage.

By Friday at the latest, the municipality must report its measures to the Work Environment Agency, but already now the ventilation must work.

- We have paper on that, that it is approved now, says Robert Fredriksson (SD), who is chairman of the Children and Education Committee, to SVT Nyheter Småland.

The head of administration: "Same situation"

According to the head of administration, Bodil Gustafsson, the electricity has also been fixed.

But she does not know if it is enough for the Swedish Work Environment Agency to withdraw the threat to ban school activities on the premises.

- We will send this on its way, then the Work Environment Agency will have to reflect on whether it is enough.

We're probably in the same situation - we have to make efforts for the premises, but we'll see what they will be, she says to SVT Småland.

New school not ready until 2024

Therefore, it is still unclear where Älghult School will be housed during the coming academic year, 2023/2024.

Even if the municipal board's proposal to rebuild and sell the school premises to private contractors who rebuild is approved by the council, it may not be ready until the fall semester of 2024.

- What came yesterday is a political orientation and a thought.

There is no decision, so we have to wait, says Bodil Gustafsson.

- There are enormous shortcomings, says Älghult School's safety representative Mikaela Rosander, who has worked at the school for eight years.
