- It is a tough economic situation and there are many who are having a tough time now - I am very happy that Sweden and other European countries have been able to help the Ukrainians so quickly and that those who do not have their own means to support themselves also receive support - which is low, says Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).

She now announces that the government is reviewing the situation of Ukrainian refugees in Sweden.

Among other things, it involves investigating whether Ukrainians should be registered in Sweden, which would give the right to, for example, more financial support in the form of establishment compensation and the right to SFI.

"Need for extended Swedish teaching"

At the moment, Ukrainian refugees do not have the right to read SFI, but are often offered the course "Swedish from day one" which does not give grades or has any syllabus in the same way.

Several municipalities have begun to offer SFI to Ukrainian refugees on their own, but whether SFI is to be offered throughout the country is not currently being answered by the government.

- We are not finished with the exact construction, but we see a need for extended Swedish teaching, says Maria Malmer Stenergard.

We are not really satisfied with the fact that they only get Swedish from day one because it is more if you were to be here for a shorter period.

Therefore, we are looking at how we can expand Swedish teaching and how we can do it best.

When the reviews will be completed and when any changes could be in place, the government cannot give an answer at the moment.

But an investigation to gain a better understanding of the situation should, according to the minister, be initiated shortly.
