SVT's mapping of nearly 18,000 people convicted of minor drug offenses shows that seven out of ten convicted of the crime were charged with possession or use of cannabis.

During the same period, cocaine dominated among high-income earners, according to the survey.

- If you buy drugs, you supply the illegal market.

The individuals who are there spare no means to own their place and protect what is theirs, says Roberto Tomé, municipal police in Gothenburg.

"The buyers have blinders"

But those who buy drugs often turn a blind eye to that connection, he believes.

- I think they are fully aware of what it is they provide and what they create.

But somewhere there is this with the blinders.

Roberto Tomé believes that there are many issues in society that are known, but do not concern me.

- You create a market for criminals and in that market comes competition, there comes violence, there comes serious abuse, alienation, misery for families, tragedies, yes everything, he continues.

"Important to capture the young"

In connection with the reorganization of the police, the street patrol groups in Gothenburg disappeared, only to reappear in different project groups with rotating personnel.

Last autumn, one of the area police groups was given a special focus on narcotics.

They work against drugs in pubs and streets.

The focus is on young people - both buyers and sellers.

- We don't go out and actively hunt an addict who has been using drugs for 30 years to put it there.

But if we come across this 16-year-old who has smoked for the first time, we can have a call of concern, report to social services and make sure this individual is caught.

It is extremely important to do so, says municipal police Roberto Tomé.

In the clip, SVT follows area police group 5 with a focus on narcotics during a work shift on a Friday evening.
