It was during Monday afternoon that a reindeer herder saw the blood trails along the snowmobile trail that runs along a road.

The police were on the scene on Tuesday with a helicopter and a dog patrol.

- The patrol on site has not found anything that speaks for neither one nor the other.

No empty shell casings and no signs of a traffic accident have been found, says Anette Krig, preliminary investigation manager at the police.

She continues:

- As it appears, the reindeer herder on site has done a good investigative job.

He means that the traces of blood indicate that they were shot, that there is too little blood for it to be a traffic accident.

Have you found any tracks?

- They have secured some tracks which they sent to NFC.

We await that analysis, says Anette Krig.

Anette Krig is now waiting for the report from the police officers who were on the scene.

The crime has been marked as a hate crime.

It is not a criminal classification in itself, but a box that the police check if they suspect that the motive may be hatred and prejudice against a group.

- Since it appears to touch reindeer and Sami, it is marked in that box.

SSR: It's terrible

Jenny Wik Karlsson, federal lawyer at SSR, links this to the numerous crimes against reindeer over the years.

- We are standing here again, I think it is terrible in many ways, she says.

She continues:

- Of course it is sad and difficult for the reindeer herder.

But above all, I am also pissed off that this has to be repeated without us seeing any clear actionable initiatives from the responsible ministries and authorities.
