The ministry clarified that they are Deputy Head of the Migration Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow, Police Colonel Igor Dudnik and Head of the Department for Refugees, Temporary Asylum and Internally Displaced Persons of the Migration Department, Police Colonel Tatyana Dmitrieva.

“The Russian-speaking Latvian writer, blogger and publicist Sergei Vasiliev was forced to leave the territory of Latvia in connection with criminal prosecution in a number of states related to his active humanitarian and volunteer activities to support the population of Donbass,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Vasiliev arrived in Russia and applied for temporary asylum.

The audit showed that Vasiliev's statement was considered superficially by officials and without taking into account all the circumstances, including the presence of a threat to his life and health at home.

“As a result, an unreasonable decision was made to refuse to grant Sergey Vasilyev temporary asylum.

At the moment, it has been canceled,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The issue of granting asylum to the writer will be resolved positively, said the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.
