Nearly four months after the government took office, the climate seems to be heating up as a battle between the Liberals and the cooperation party Sweden Democrats.

The reduction obligation is a clear issue where people stand far apart - at the same time SD wants to paint the climate debate as a new immigration debate.

- It reminds a lot of how it sounded a number of years ago.

That is to say, you must not question at all, regardless of what you question.

You must not consider other perspectives because then you are accused of being a climate denier, said Jimmie Åkesson in an interview in November 2022.

"Need a new battlefield"

In Wednesday's episode of Politikbyrån, the guest panel agrees that the climate is a contentious issue.

- Since SD won their culture war around the migration issue, they have needed a new battlefield, says Aftonbladet's political reporter My Rohwedder in Politikbyrån.

"A battle between good and evil"

The SD profile Jessica Stegrud has recently started a podcast together with Elsa Widding where the climate is a recurring theme.

She agrees with her party leader that the climate debate has "certain similarities" to the immigration debate.

- It is very polarized and stigmatized.

The question almost has a religious overtone at times.

People like to paint it as a battle between the good and the bad, says Jessica Stegrud in Politikbyrån and continues:

- There are a lot of emotions involved and I think that is, to use a common word for me, fascinating.

"SD interested in conflict"

Romina Pourmokhtari (L), climate and environment minister, in her turn believes that the climate is an area that SD has actively chosen to seek conflict around.

- The policy I want to pursue is very far from SD and their views and that makes you a red scumbag.

SD wants to show its voters that they don't like me and the policies that I push through, she says in the Politikbyrån and continues:

- It is quite obvious that this is the kind of work where our parties do not think much alike at all and that is probably why they are so interested in mediating various conflicts.
