Ursula Von Der Leyen wants to make these new sanctions coincide with the first anniversary of the start of the invasion launched by Russia in Ukraine, on February 24.
This tenth package of measures should target, for an amount of 10 billion euros, the technological components which go into the manufacture of the weapons deployed by Russia, reports our special envoy in Strasbourg, Daniel Vallot
.
With these new sanctions, the President of the European Commission also wants, and this is a first since the beginning of the war, to target Iran,
accused of supplying drones to the Russian army
.
“These Iranian drones are killing Ukrainian civilians, it's atrocious.
So for the first time we are also proposing to sanction Iranian operators, including those linked to the Revolutionary Guards, it is our duty to do so, our duty to sanction this,” said Ursula von der Leyen.
Military support
In addition to sanctions,
there is also military support.
European countries must give more equipment and ammunition to Ukraine, said Josep Borell, the head of European diplomacy.
He is particularly surprised to see the European armored vehicles “
collecting dust
” in the barracks when Ukraine needs them, and this quickly.
"
It's in the spring, it's next summer, that the course of the war will be decided
," he concluded before the MEPs.

The President of the Commission also praised the efforts made by Ukraine, a candidate for membership of the European Union.
"
Putin wanted to kill Ukraine's European dream, today Ukraine is moving towards the European Union faster and more resolutely than ever
," she stressed.
“
The Ukrainians are making tangible progress even though they are at war!
“, she hammered.
“
If they are making this progress, it is because their dearest wish is to join Europe
,” she insisted a week after
an important visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
to London, Paris and Brussels.
