Lycksele BB is Sweden's smallest maternity unit and has been closed since December 19 due to staff shortages.

It is still unclear when the department can reopen.

In January, Region Västerbotten made the decision that BB will be outsourced and a staffing company will be tasked with solving the staffing during the time that a new working model will be developed.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting of the health and medical care board meeting, the costs have been specified.

Asking SEK 50 million

- It is about SEK 40 to 50 million.

It could be two, three and, in the worst case, four times more expensive than what we paid before, says the board's chair Anna-Lena Danielsson (S).

For the investments in a midwife-led delivery and a new way of working that makes the workplace more attractive, the board is asking for 20 million kroner per year, about 3 million more than before.

This will include around 20 new midwife positions, which will also include a salary investment.

Unclear when BB can open

The Health and Medical Services Board does not believe that in the future it will be that much more expensive to run a midwife-led delivery than it has cost so far.

But initially it will cost more with renovations, equipment purchases, study trips and more.

The cost of this is estimated at around 2 million.

But when BB can reopen is still unclear.

- It is still difficult to say.

After the summer, during the autumn, says Anna-Lena Danielsson (S).

The regional board will have an extra meeting next week to push for the money, so that a final decision can be made in the following council.
