The Wall Street Journal said that the US military is considering sending what it says are confiscated Iranian weapons to Ukraine, including thousands of rifles and hundreds of thousands of ammunition.

The newspaper quoted US officials as saying that the US military seized these weapons during the past few months off the coast of Yemen, from smugglers suspected of working for Iran.

The same sources indicated that these weapons, which may go to the Ukrainian army, include more than 5,000 assault rifles, 1.6 million rounds of small arms ammunition, a small number of anti-tank missiles, and more than 7,000 detonators.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry had rejected the US allegations of seizing Iranian weapons on their way to Yemen, describing them as politically motivated accusations to mislead world public opinion.

On the other hand, the United States and its allies accuse Iran of supplying Russia with hundreds of drones that are used to bomb infrastructure in Ukraine.

Tehran acknowledged providing Moscow with drones, but confirmed that this was before Russia launched the war on its western neighbor on February 24, 2022.

The administration of US President Joe Biden imposed sanctions on companies and people it accused of producing or transporting Iranian drones that Russia uses to attack infrastructure in Ukraine.
