The Supreme People's Procuratorate held a press conference on "Doing Excellent Criminal Prosecution in the New Era" on the same day, and Sun Qian released the above data at the meeting.

He also mentioned that in the past five years, the procuratorate has applied the procedure of confiscating illegal gains to more than 50 cases of corruption and bribery (where the criminal escaped or died), and for the first time applied the procedure of trial in absentia to prosecute Cheng Sanchang, a fugitive corruption suspect.

"Punishment focuses on 'hunting' state functionaries, seeking illegal benefits through bribery, bribing many people or multiple times, and huge amounts of bribes. In the past five years, more than 11,000 people have been prosecuted for bribery crimes." Sun Qian said.

Shi Weizhong, director of the Third Procuratorate of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, said at the meeting that judging from the corruption and bribery cases handled by the procuratorial organs, the current corruption crimes have shown some new characteristics, with prominent industrial, systemic and regional corruption. The concealment and complexity of the methods have increased, the amount involved in the case has continued to rise, and the problem of family-style corruption has become increasingly prominent.

When it comes to bribery crimes, Shi Weizhong said, "Some bribers use unscrupulous means to 'hunt' party members and cadres, and the huge bribes are bad in nature and serious in harm."

He said that the proportion of people involved in bribery crimes involving more than one million yuan has risen from about 14% in early 2018 to 47% in 2022.

Shi Weizhong pointed out that in the next step, the procuratorial departments of duty-related crimes at all levels will strengthen mutual cooperation and mutual restraint with the supervisory organs and judicial organs, perform their functions of punishing corruption crimes in accordance with the law, and continue to implement the "simultaneous investigation of bribery and bribery".

In addition, the meeting also disclosed the procuratorate's data on the prosecution of criminals.
