If you look at the statistics from the turn of the year onwards, however, total unemployment begins to creep upwards, from 336,000 registered at the turn of the year, to 341,000 in January and so far in February 342,000 people.

In the age group 18 to 24, unemployment is slightly higher, 7.7 percent, 38,900 people.

Among the foreign-born, the unemployment rate is higher than for the domestic-born, 15.7 percent compared to 3.6 percent.

32,000 people registered with the Employment Service as unemployed in January, which is 3,000 more than in January 2022. The notification figures also show a gloomy development – ​​5,000 people were notified in January, TT reports.

It is the highest January figure since 2015 and since the beginning of February, nearly 13,000 people have been notified.

Unemployment will increase

The proportion of people who have been unemployed for twelve months or more is decreasing among both domestically and foreign-born.

146,000 people are long-term unemployed, which is 33,000 fewer than in January last year.

For a long period, we have had a strong labor market where many people have found jobs.
