Since mid-January, the government has set up a fuel check worth 100 euros to help the French face inflation.

But a month later, only half of the households concerned have requested this compensation.

How to explain it?

The government set up the fuel allowance in the amount of 100 euros on January 16th.

Aid which was to stop at the end of February but which will finally be extended until the end of March.

The compensation which 10 million French people can benefit from has only been requested by five million of them.

How to explain that so many French people do not benefit from it?

Some households think they are not entitled to the allowance

According to Bercy, many households think they are not entitled to this aid.

However, the services of the ministry did send a letter to the 10 million eligible households.

More broadly, this situation illustrates a deep problem identified by the State: that of non-recourse to aid.

"A discomfort of not feeling legitimate"

In France, one in three entitled persons does not request it.

According to information from Europe 1, only 400,000 households claimed their "wood energy check" at the beginning of this year, out of a total of 2.6 million eligible households.

For Rémi Le Gal, economist of social protection, the administration is partly responsible.

“There are failures on the side of the administration, of the Social Security funds, which will not offer these devices. And then there is a fear or an uneasiness of not feeling legitimate to request a social benefit.

This is also the case for the RSA: 36% of beneficiaries do not ask for it.

As a result, of this allocation, three billion euros remain in the state coffers instead of going into the pockets of the French people concerned.
