The police decide on mountain rescue when a rescue operation is needed in the mountains.
In 2022, there were 234 mountain rescue operations in total, a decrease of 78 missions compared to the previous year.
The largest decrease was in the counties of Jämtland and Norrbotten.

57 of the mountain rescues involved scooter accidents or where scooter riders got stuck or the scooter broke down.
73 cases were about skiers who hurt themselves and in 94 cases it was about hikers who either hurt themselves or ended up in a vulnerable situation.
