“I consider it necessary to work out a law on the introduction of criminal liability for publicly insulting the honor and dignity of the Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia,” Khamzaev said.

According to him, society and the state must protect the defenders of the Fatherland, who sometimes do not have the time and opportunity to respond to insults addressed to them.

“The Hero of Russia now does not even have the opportunity to respond to the insult, because he is fulfilling the tasks set by the Supreme Commander in the NVO zone,” the deputy added.

Earlier, the State Duma approved a project on the non-declared procedure for monthly payments to the Heroes of the USSR and Russia.

Also, the State Duma called for extending benefits to the families of ensigns and warrant officers dismissed after 25 years of service.
