China News Service, February 10th. It has been nearly half a year since the explosion of the "Beixi" natural gas pipeline, the "artery" of natural gas transportation between Russia and Europe. Recently, there have been new claims about the behind-the-scenes of the incident.

Seymour Hersh, a senior American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner, broke the news that the bombing of the Nord Stream pipeline was "approved by US President Joe Biden and participated in by the US military."

As soon as the article came out, it shocked public opinion and caused multiple reactions.

In Russia's view, "this is a very dangerous precedent: if someone does it once, they can do it again anywhere in the world." What is the truth of the incident?

The United States, I am afraid, still owes the world an explanation.

The United States was exposed to secretly bombing "North Stream"

A few days ago, Hersh published an article entitled "How the United States Destroyed the "North Stream" Pipeline" on the website Substack, in which he described in detail the "North Stream" pipeline explosion that occurred in September 2022.

Hersh quoted anonymous sources in the article as saying that "skilled deep-water divers" from the U.S. Navy planted remotely triggered C-4 explosives during a training exercise in June 2022, which was dropped by a Norwegian Navy aircraft in September of the same year. Sonobuoys, which detonated explosives, damaged three of the four pipelines of the Nord Stream pipeline.

Hersh also pointed out that after nine months of consultations on the plan by the U.S. national security agencies, Biden ordered professional U.S. Navy divers to sabotage the oil pipeline.

Hersh also wrote that in Biden's view, the natural gas pipeline is a tool used by Russian President Vladimir Putin to "weaponize natural gas to achieve political ambitions."

The article quoted sources as saying that the U.S. Navy carried out the explosives laying operation under the cover of the NATO maritime exercise "BALTOPS 22".

The source said that when the relevant departments of the United States were discussing how to destroy the "North Stream" pipeline, "all relevant personnel understand the risks involved", and "the CIA advocates that no matter what is done, it must be concealed."

If the attack could be traced to the United States, "it would be an act of war," the source said.

On September 26, 2022, the important natural gas transportation pipelines "Beixi-1" and "Beixi-2" connecting Russia and Europe suffered gas leaks and underwater explosions one after another.

After the incident, Denmark and Sweden conducted investigations on the scene and said that the pipeline was suspected of "deliberate sabotage".

On October 31, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Gazprom was allowed to inspect the "Beixi" explosion site, and the company's president Miller reported the investigation to him.

Putin also stated that the explosion of the "North Stream" natural gas pipeline was obviously a "terrorist attack."

The White House denies it, and the Western media "misfires". The United States owes the world an explanation!

As soon as the news came out, there was an uproar from all parties.

First look at the credibility of this revelation?

Hersh, the 85-year-old whistleblower, is a senior investigative reporter who once worked for The New York Times and The New Yorker. He is famous for exposing the massacre of Vietnamese civilians by the US military more than 50 years ago.

He also disclosed the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison by the US military after the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

In the face of this senior reporter's strong report, the United States and Norway urgently denied it, but the United States' denial seemed a little pale. The whole article only said "it's not me", "I don't have it" and "you are talking nonsense".

A Pentagon spokesman said in a brief statement that "the United States had nothing to do with the Nord Stream explosion," reiterating the U.S. Department of Defense's response to the same issue in October 2022.

A CIA spokesman also called Hersh's report "completely false."

Watson, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, called the statement in Hersh's article "completely false" and "completely fictitious."

A spokesman for the US State Department also made similar comments.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also clearly denied that the Norwegian government supported the US actions, saying that "these claims are wrong."

Although this incident shocked public opinion, mainstream Western media rarely spoke about it.

Russian President's Press Secretary Peskov said that it was "surprising" that the content of this revelation did not appear widely in Western media reports.

"The world must find out the truth about who carried out this sabotage. This is a very dangerous precedent: if someone did it once, they can do it again anywhere in the world," Peskov told reporters.

He said the world deserves to know who was behind the explosion on the Nord Stream gas pipeline and that those responsible should be punished, and called for an "open international investigation into this unprecedented attack on international critical infrastructure."

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova also commented that the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the United States to respond to the investigation into the sabotage of the "Beixi" pipeline.

She emphasized, "We have repeatedly expressed Russia's position on the involvement of the United States and NATO in this matter, noting that they brag unceremoniously to the world that they intend to destroy the civilian infrastructure of Europe through which access to Russian energy."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on the 10th that the "Beixi" natural gas pipeline is a major transnational infrastructure, and the relevant explosion has had a major negative impact on the global energy market and the global ecological environment.

She also pointed out that if Hersh's investigative report is true, it is unacceptable and must be held accountable.

The US side should make a responsible account to the world.
