At the turn of the year, Råneå bathhouse was closed due to legionella and the first attempt to flush away the bacteria with 75-degree water failed.

A new attempt costs up to one million kroner, and that in a building that already reached its technical lifespan seven years ago.

"No guarantees"

- If we spend this money on measures, there are no guarantees that the bacteria will disappear, and already in 2016 the cost of a renovation was estimated at over SEK 30 million, a sum that has hardly been lower since then, says city planning manager Helen Wiklund-Wårell.

Therefore, the culture and leisure administration will propose closure at the board meeting on March 22.

"The building is completely finished"

- We understand that it is very sad news, but we propose that we leave the bathhouse as tenants.

Even if we get rid of the legionella, it is difficult to run a long-term business in a building that is technically out of date, says cultural and leisure manager Patrik Byhlin.

The closure must be carried out as soon as possible and swimming lessons in Råneå will continue to be conducted at Gammelstad's bathhouse and at Pontusbadet.

If the cultural and leisure administration decides to terminate the lease on March 22, the question of what should happen to the building ends up on the city planning committee's table.
