  South Korea's opposition parties, the Common Democratic Party, the Justice Party, and the Basic Income Party jointly submitted a motion to impeach Li Sangmin to the National Assembly on the 6th of this month, aiming to hold Li Sangmin accountable for his ineffective response to the stampede in Itaewon, Seoul.

  The South Korean National Assembly held a secret ballot vote on Li Xiangmin's impeachment motion at the plenary meeting on the 8th, and finally passed the impeachment case with 179 votes in favor, 109 votes against, and 5 invalid votes.

After that, the case will be submitted to the Constitutional Court, which, according to South Korean law, needs to make a final decision within 180 days.

Li Xiangmin will be suspended until the final ruling is made.

  Li Xiangmin expressed his position on the passage of his impeachment motion by the National Assembly on the same day, saying that he will seriously accept the impeachment trial by the Constitutional Court.

  On the evening of October 29, 2022, a serious stampede occurred in Itaewon, Yongsan District, Seoul, killing 159 people.
