Ahmed Hindawi is originally from Syria.

He lives today in Mörbylånga, and was shocked by the news of the powerful earthquake that has cost more than 8,000 lives so far.

Disappeared in the racial masses

Ahmed Hindawi's sister and her three children who have fled the war in Syria, live today in the city of Kahramanmaraş in Turkey.

When Ahmed could not reach his sister after the first earthquake, he continued to watch the news on various Arabic channels to get information about his sister's health if possible.

- I never wanted to give up hope of hearing that my sister and her family were okay.

I watched the news constantly, and finally we got news that confirmed that my sister and her three children are alive, but her husband is still missing under the rubble, says Ahmed to SVT Småland.

Hoping for the world's help

Now it's mostly helplessness.

Not being able to help is frustrating, and he now hopes that the world's countries will do what they can to help those affected in both Turkey and Syria.

- I hope that the international community, including Sweden, will act quickly and effectively to help the affected people in Turkey.

This situation requires our full attention and action.
