International aid is due to arrive in Turkey and northern Syria on Tuesday, where the race against time and cold continues to extricate survivors of the violent earthquakes that ravaged the region the day before, killing more than 4,000 people in the two country.

In Turkey, the death toll rises to 3,381.

The death toll for Turkey from the powerful earthquake that shook the south-east of the country on Monday has risen to 3,381 dead, Afad, Turkey's official relief organization, announced on Tuesday.

This brings the total death toll in Turkey and Syria to 4,890, in a string of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in nearly a century.
