The port city of Iskenderun in the province of Hatay in southeastern Turkey, which is about 30 miles from the epicenter of the worst tremors, was hit hard in Monday's earthquake.

Many of the nearly 200,000 inhabitants of the city have seen their homes collapse, and intensive work is now underway to find survivors under the rubble.

- A woman told us that her children are under the racial masses.

She told me that she had been here for two days, without sleeping, says Samir Abu Eid, who is on site in Iskenderun together with photographer Salim Alsabbagh.

Abu Eid says that the aid teams that have been sent out to assist the rescue work in the affected areas have not yet reached Iskenderun.

- It is private individuals, relatives, who manage this rescue work.

I have not seen a single rescue team.

Where we are today, people have protested and been very critical of the fact that no help has come, he says.
