A Serbian lawmaker resigned on Tuesday after a video emerged showing him watching porn during a turbulent parliamentary session last week, state television reported.

A viral video posted on social media shows Zvonimir Stevic, 65, watching pornographic content on his phone during heated debates over normalizing relations between Belgrade and Kosovo, the former southern province of Serbia.

The person concerned, a veteran of the Socialist Party, a minority formation within the government coalition, is himself from Kosovo and was a time deputy minister for the territory which declared its independence in 2008. The incident aroused strong criticism from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) while the MP's own party has called for his resignation.

Clashes during this session

During the same session, clashes occurred when members of the nationalist opposition stood up to wave signs denouncing "treason" before being physically repelled by members of President Aleksandar Vucic's SNS.

Serbia and Kosovo are under intense Western pressure to strike a deal to ease their strained relations as war rages in Russia-invaded Ukraine.

Serbia still refuses to recognize the independence of Kosovo proclaimed by the Albanian majority in 2008. Supported by Russia and China, it prevents Pristina from becoming a member of a whole series of international institutions including the UN.
