“The Russian side again explained in detail the reasons and goals of the special operation related to the need to stop threats to Russia’s security coming from Ukraine, inspired by the collective West led by the United States,” the statement says.

The diplomats also exchanged views on the current situation in Ukraine and stated the general mood for efforts in the interests of strengthening peace in the region.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said earlier that peace is needed in Ukraine, which would be accepted by both sides of the conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed to Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan the openness of the Russian side to dialogue on Ukraine.

He noted that Kyiv must fulfill the previously announced requirements and take into account the new territorial realities.
