The new breakthrough in the investigation after the murder in the fabric store Stuvkällaren in Gothenburg 18 years ago has stirred up strong emotions among relatives and questions within the justice system.

The reason is that the woman who is now suspected was only 17 years old at the time of the murder.

When a perpetrator is under 18, the statute of limitations is 15 years.

The woman can therefore neither be heard nor put on trial.

The investigation is complete

An investigation into limitation periods is ready according to the Minister of Justice, who now wants to hurry to change the law.

He now wants the statute of limitations for young offenders to be 25 years for murder, instead of 15 as it is today.

But he is also open to removing the statute of limitations entirely.

- It is a legitimate question.

Now we start with this, says Gunnar Strömmer (M).
