This opinion was expressed by The Washington Post columnist Farid Zakaria.

He noted that the country's economic indicators are deteriorating, the UK is lagging behind its competitors, feeling in a quandary, "wherever you look."

Zakaria recalled that London previously also had great influence in the European Union, as well as close relations with Washington and a strong army.

“The UK has become an average island nation, isolated from the coast of Europe, not having enough weight to be independent or set the agenda in its relations with partners,” Zakaria concluded.

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Rishi Sunak said earlier that the UK is going through a deep economic crisis.

Sunak warned that the UK's economic troubles will not end in 2023.
