• Politics Feijóo subscribes to the euphoria after uniting Aznar and Rajoy: "We are going to get out of here plugged in"

  • Interview Alfonso Rueda: "With the extremism of Vox and Podemos, a stable policy cannot be made"

An air of unprecedented enthusiasm floated in the atmosphere.

On Saturday night, already below the media radar, the leadership of the PP held a private banquet at the

Westin Valencia Hotel

to celebrate what had just happened in the party's Intermunicipal.

Just three hours earlier, after half past six in the afternoon, José María Aznar and Mariano Rajoy had made their political reconciliation official, sharing the stage and message with Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

For the PP, the mere image of the two ex-presidents together and well-matched, 11 years after their last political duet, unleashed a true shock of euphoria.

As in the Gallic village of

Asterix

, the happy ending had to end around the table.

In the center, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

On each side he was escorted by a former president, and beyond, Ana Botella, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco and Fernando López Miras.

Opposite, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Alfonso Rueda, Cuca Gamarra and Elías Bendodo presided.

They ate cooked vegetables, sea bass with mashed potatoes, and

panna cotta

.

Bread, white or with paprika.

They toasted with wine for the photo of the unit.

The two former presidents showed a recovered complicity, various sources from the dinner tell EL MUNDO.

At dessert, Feijóo got up and gave a little speech in which he wanted to show them his "thank you for the contribution."

«The party is more united than ever», he agreed with the leaders who listened to him.

While he was standing up, Aznar and Rajoy exchanged a friendly gesture.

When Feijóo sat down, Aznar broke the ice.

«If you allow me, Alberto, can I say something?».

He didn't need to answer.

He went on.

"Mariano, I think I can speak on behalf of both of them, right?"

"Yes, yes, the ladder is the ladder," Rajoy gladly accepted.

What Aznar wanted to say to the party's main candidates was a single idea: «We are at your disposal, wherever you want and wherever we can contribute.

If you call us, let's go.

And if not, nothing happens".

When he finished, Aznar patted Feijóo on the leg and told him: "Things are going well."

Rajoy made him thread, as if again respecting the seniority shift: "It smells good to me," he said, touching his nose with his index finger.

"Things are going to be fine, damn it!" He emphasized.

Peace was definitively sealed with a semi-

embrace

: Rajoy took Aznar by the forearms, who reciprocated the gesture.

This apparent affection was palpable "throughout dinner, and not just in front of the cameras," says one of those present.

The reconciliation seemed credible.

"It has more merit because there were no cameras," adds another.

Before, upon arrival at

the Valencia Science Museum

-an imposing building in the shape of a whale skeleton-, a journalist asked loudly, from afar: "Mr. Feijóo, how did you get this photo?"

Rajoy smiled sarcastically.

Good question.

That, how?

The truth is that he did not need much effort.

For "months", Feijóo has "verified" the willingness of both "to always support."

It was the president of the PP himself who called them to convey the possibility of meeting again on the stage of a PP political act more than a decade later.

And without conditions of any kind.

They wanted to share the stage to visualize union and affability.

On the other end of the phone, Aznar accepted with a very Aznarian phrase: "Whenever you want and wherever you want."

Mariano Rajoy also gave the

ok

immediately: «Here we are all available.

And when I say everyone is everyone », he told Feijóo on his call.

In Genoa there were those who thought if it would not be better to save the bullet of the union of Aznar and Rajoy for later.

To bring it closer to the electoral appointments and better capitalize on its effect.

But 10 days ago, on

January 27

, Feijóo announced to his team that the two former presidents would go to the Valencia conclave.

“He called them and he decided when to bring them together;

and he did not ask, he communicated it, "the sources point out.

Wink at Vox

The national leadership of the PP gives special relevance to the fact that Aznar lent himself to the image of "unity".

"He is the political reference for 75% of the Vox electorate, and on Saturday he told his voters that he will do whatever it takes to help change Sánchez... and that this can only be through the PP" , they explain.

In fact, in his public speech, Aznar criticized Vox without citing it and asked not to enter into its framework: "We must let others try to win something in anger and anger."

Rajoy, in turn, assured that the Spanish are tired of the "polarization of the populists."

Yesterday Feijóo abounded in that criticism of Santiago Abascal.

"On both sides they are doing quite strange things," he said, in a reference that has been interpreted as a criticism of the motion that Vox wants to present with the economist Ramón Tamames as a candidate.

"The majority travels through the center," countered the PP leader, who subscribed to the euphoria after uniting the two main souls of the party.

"We are going to get out of here plugged in," he said, before challenging Pedro Sánchez to advance the elections: "Go and call."

"Euphoria"

The word to describe the mood of the PP is that, "euphoria."

"Feijóo is euphoric", summarizes one of the main barons, who adds that "politics are sensations and the photo of Rajoy and Aznar means that the PP is clearly on the rise."

"Feijóo is the point of union between the two souls of the PP, and the two feel comfortable with him as a link," observes another government baron.

"It is easier to ask to unite the vote around the PP if the PP is united, and yesterday we showed that there are two very different ways of understanding politics that converge around Feijóo", they boast in Genoa.

"Before, Rajoy and Feijóo, if they greeted each other, it was a miracle...", recalls, accurately, a president of the regional government.

"And they have bite the bullet because now they do see chances of winning," he says.

"A picture is worth a thousand words.

The photo is the most important for the PP in years, much more important than the three speeches they gave, no matter how good they were," observes a fourth territorial leader.

If on Saturday night Aznar and Rajoy staged their points in common, on Sunday morning it was already possible to verify that it is almost impossible for them to tune in to the same frequency.

Both coincided in the

Jardín del Turia

doing sports, but while Aznar did a series of high-intensity exercises, Rajoy walked fast, at a "Marian pace".

The two speeds of the PP.
