Today, Monday, the Palestinian authorities announced that the Israeli occupation army killed 5 Palestinians in Aqabat Jabr camp near the city of Jericho (eastern West Bank).

The governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, Jihad Abu al-Assal, told the official Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) that "five citizens were killed by Israeli occupation forces, after the storming of Aqabat Jaber camp, south of Jericho," and indicated that the Israeli forces arrested 8 citizens during the operation.

Earlier today, Monday, the Ministry of Health reported - in a statement - that a number of Palestinians were killed and 3 others were wounded, during the occupation army's raid on Aqabat Jaber camp.

For its part, the occupation army said - in a statement - that "its forces launched with the Shin Bet last night a joint activity in Aqabat Jaber camp near Jericho and carried out search and arrest operations, where a number of Palestinian gunmen were killed after they opened fire on the forces."

He added that what he described as military activity was aimed at arresting a Hamas cell that sought to carry out a shooting attack against an Israeli civilian restaurant on the evening of January 28, and as a result of a malfunction in the weapons, it fled towards the city of Jericho without committing the operation, according to the statement.

He went on to say that "during the activity, a military force spotted a number of gunmen and armed clashes broke out, and the forces were able to neutralize gunmen, including a number of those involved in the operation and remove the threat," according to the same source.

During the current week, the Israeli occupation army stormed the Aqabat Jabr camp several times, with the aim of chasing down Palestinians it seeks to arrest.
