A handful of grocery stores in Skellefteå give food that would otherwise be thrown away to aid organizations.
Before the expired food is donated, it is first reduced to a sale price.
But when customers got leaner wallets, more and more of the reduced-price food that has a short expiration date is sold.
- Customers buy more of it now, but then we actively try to see what we can donate to Stadmissionen three times a week, says store manager Alexander Björk.
Received from wholesaler
So far, both the City Mission and the Pentecostal Church receive food in other ways to help vulnerable people.
- We also see a clear reduction from stores.
But luckily we have an agreement with a wholesaler as well, and from there we get as much as before, says Anna-Karin Kriström, director of Pingstkyrkan's LP.
