On Sunday, Ukrainian media quoted the Interior Minister as saying that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had decided to appoint Major General Kirillo Budanov as the new defense minister.

The Interior Minister added that Zelensky decided to transfer the current Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov to the post of Minister of Strategic Industries.

Earlier Sunday, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that audits of military procurement contracts were underway after corruption scandals, and that he would resign if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a decision against him.

Reznikov added during a press conference that the decision on whether he should be defense minister or not;

It is taken by one person, President Zelensky.

"My specialty as a lawyer allows me to think with optimism that I will certainly find an interesting project for myself, which will not only allow us to win the war, but also punish the military and political leadership of the Russian Federation later," he continued.

The Ukrainian Minister of Defense stressed that he believes that every official must realize that he will not remain in office for life.

Local media had previously reported that Reznikov may submit his resignation in the coming days and that parliament intends to consider his request early next week.

And the "Ukrainská Pravda" website said, quoting unidentified sources, that Reznikov, 56, will be replaced next week by Kirillo Budanov, the 37-year-old head of military intelligence, and Reznikov, who studied law, may be appointed Minister of Justice, according to the website. .

Reznikov is considered one of the most famous faces during this war, and he was appointed Minister of Defense in November 2021 and he supervised the armed forces throughout the period of the Russian war against Ukraine, which began on February 24 last year.

He also helped secure Western weapons to support the Ukrainian forces.

But his ministry has been plagued by corruption scandals recently, and defense officials were among about 10 people forced to resign last month, in the biggest political shake-up in Ukraine since the start of the war.

Reznikov's deputy Vyacheslav Shapovalov, who worked to provide logistical support to the army, resigned after accusing the Ministry of Defense of signing food contracts at prices two to three times higher than the current prices of basic foodstuffs.
