The octogenarian couple found dead on Wednesday at their home in Salon-de-Provence in the Bouches-du-Rhône was indeed killed, the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence certified to AFP on Thursday.
"The criminal trail is confirmed," explained Jean-Luc Blachon.
"Findings on the spot and the autopsy showed that the people died as a result of multiple blows from sharp and blunt objects to the head, face and skull," he said.
The hypothesis of a burglary
For the moment, the investigation entrusted to the judicial police is in progress, and no lead is privileged to explain the reasons for this act "of extreme violence", according to the prosecutor.
Arriving at the home of these people aged 80 and 84, the investigators noticed that many objects had been "moved", leaving open the hypothesis of a burglary.
