The need for long-term measures is usually pointed out as absolutely necessary to be able to reverse the gloomy development of an increasingly widespread and violent drug crime.

Municipality and police in close cooperation

In a concrete attempt in Sundsvall, to break the recruitment of young people into various criminal environments, an attempt is now being made to place municipal social workers in the police station where they can work close to police investigators.

- We are in the start-up phase, says Isabell Björck, social secretary who now has the police station as her workplace.

In about a month, they will be two when a colleague of Isabell starts at the police station.

Proven method

- It's not rocket science, says Robert Gatugård, the municipality's coordinator for drug issues.

The method has been used in Gothenburg, but also in Iceland and Denmark.

With good results, according to Gatugård.

The project will last until 2024, but if the outcome is good, Gatugård hopes for a continuation.

Is this the right method to be able to break the development?
