China News Agency, United Nations, February 2nd, the United Nations Security Council held a public meeting on the Iraqi issue on the 2nd.

Dai Bing, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, called on the international community to continue to support Iraq's fight against terrorism, eliminate "Islamic State" and other terrorist and extremist forces, prevent their return and spread, and consolidate the hard-won achievements in anti-terrorism.

On the same day, Hennessy Prashardt, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, made a briefing.

She said that about three months ago, the Iraqi National Assembly elected a new president and confirmed the composition of the new government, ending more than a year of tension, political discord and power struggles.

She urged Iraqi political circles to seize the period of opportunity and deal with corruption, security, social development, public services and other issues, so that the country can completely get rid of the cycle of instability and fragility.

Dai Bing said that at present, the security situation in Iraq is still grim, and the remnant terrorist forces are still launching asymmetrical attacks, causing casualties including civilians.

The United Nations investigation team for collecting "Islamic State" evidence in Iraq must hand over the collected evidence to Iraq as soon as possible to help Iraq bring terrorists to justice in accordance with its own laws.

China welcomes Iraq's continued efforts to advance the repatriation and resettlement of Iraqi citizens in Syria's Khor camp, and urges relevant countries to take responsibility like Iraq and advance the screening and repatriation of foreign terrorist fighters and their families in Iraq as soon as possible.

Dai Bing said that according to the report of the Secretary-General, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices continue to cause civilian casualties in Iraq and are the main cause of child casualties in Iraq.

Many of these explosives were left over from the war 20 years ago. The country that launched the war should take the initiative to take practical actions in helping Iraq clear mines and assisting victims.

Dai Bing said that peace in Iraq cannot be separated from a stable regional environment.

China has repeatedly stressed that Iraq is not a game field for geopolitical competition.

China supports Iraq in developing good-neighborly and friendly relations with countries in the region and jointly responding to cross-border challenges.

China calls on all relevant parties to respect Iraq's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and resolve their own security concerns through cooperation with the Iraqi government.

Dai Bing said that in the past few decades, Iraq has suffered from wars and its people have suffered.

The international community should actively help Iraq rebuild infrastructure, accelerate economic and social development, and improve people's livelihood and well-being.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and other United Nations agencies in Iraq should devote more resources and energy to the priority areas most needed by the Iraqi people, carry out work according to the mandate and division of labor, and give full play to the role of the country team.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of UNAMI. It is necessary to take this opportunity to systematically summarize and evaluate the work and performance of UNAMI on the basis of soliciting Iraqi opinions, and to conduct serious research on the medium and long-term prospects of the mission.

Dai Bing said that China will continue to firmly support Iraq in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, will continue to support Iraq in economic reconstruction, and help Iraq restore industry, improve people's livelihood and achieve sustainable development.

China is willing to work with the international community to make positive contributions to the long-term peace and stability of Iraq and the peaceful development of the region.
