On February 8th, the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Army in North Korea is attracting attention.

This is because it seems that a large-scale military parade will be held.

By the way, February 6, two days before that, is also a day that draws attention in North Korea this year.

This is because it is the anniversary of the 60th anniversary of Kim Il-sung presenting the so-called 'one per hundred' slogan.

At the 6th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea held at the end of last year, North Korea gave meaning to the '60th anniversary of the one-hundred-hundred relief'.

“Based on the direction of military construction declared at the 8th Party Congress and important party meetings, the 70th anniversary of the victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War and the 60th anniversary of the presentation of the slogan ‘one per hundred’, in 2023, strengthen the political and ideological power of the armed forces of the Republic in every way It should be a year that brings about a transition in preparing for war mobilization and improving actual warfare capabilities.”

The day of presenting the slogan of 'One Dang Baek' by Kim Il-sung was not a day that was greatly celebrated in North Korea like the founding day of the party or the founding of the military.

As a result of inquiries to the Ministry of Unification, it was found that there was a commemorative briefing session by the Ministry of People's Armed Forces on the 50th anniversary of the one-hundred-hundred-hundred relief aid presentation in 2013, and that there were also briefing sessions in 2003 and 1993 before that.

A commemorative briefing session has been held approximately every 10 years.

As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the one-hundred-a-hundred relief, it is expected that there will be a commemorative briefing session.

However, a large-scale military parade is scheduled to be held two days after the anniversary of the one-per-hundred-hundred relief presentation, and at the plenary meeting at the end of last year, Kim Jong-un himself emphasized the '60th anniversary of one-hundred-hundred relief', so there is a possibility of a larger-scale event.

The origin of the slogan 'one per hundred'

'One hundred per hundred' is a phrase that is sometimes used in our society.

By the way, why did North Korea even make an anniversary because of the importance of this word?

The origin of the one-per-hundred-dollar relief presentation dates back to 1963.

On February 6, 1963, when Kim Il-sung visited the Daedeok Mountain guard post of the frontline unit, the soldiers suggested that “the slogan of the People’s Army is one hundred per hundred,” North Korea explains.

Since it is a country that worships Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il like gods, it is possible to think that a single word from Kim Il-sung even made a memorial day.

In the early 1960s, when Kim Il-sung presented the one-hundred slogan, North Korea was going through a security crisis of its own.

In South Korea, the anti-communist atmosphere intensified with the emergence of a military regime in the 5.16 coup, the Soviet Union showed weakness in the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and concerns about external threats were growing due to the United States' efforts to normalize Korea-Japan relations.

Moreover, the severe ideological conflict between China and the Soviet Union, the two pillars of socialism, has brought about a situation that even hinders North Korea's military security.

This is because North Korea, which was in a position to support China, which opposed Khrushchev's peaceful coexistence, reached a situation where it could not receive military aid from the Soviet Union.

In this situation, North Korea has come to recognize that it must strengthen its own military power, that is, realize 'self-defense in national defense'.

This atmosphere was reflected in the 5th plenary session of the 4th Labor Party held from December 10 to 14, 1962.

At this plenary meeting, Kim Il-sung said, “A country that does not have self-defense capabilities capable of defending and defending its sovereignty from the enemy cannot in fact be said to be a completely sovereign and independent state.”

At the meeting, “all Party members and working people hold weapons in one hand and sickle and hammer in the other, defend the motherland and build socialism at the same time” and “strengthen national defense power first, even if some restrictions are imposed on the development of the people’s economy”. decided that

The economy-defense construction parallel line, which is the prototype of the nuclear-economy parallel line proposed by Kim Jong-un in 2013, appeared at this time.

At the meeting, armament of the entire people, cadreization of the entire army, and national fortification were presented, excluding the modernization of the entire army, among the 'four major military routes'.

Kim Il-sung's visit to the Daedeoksan guard post and the presentation of aid for one hundred thousand took place in this atmosphere.

Under the security crisis faced by North Korea, with the emphasis on strengthening national defense by one's own strength, the slogan of one hundred people per person under the banner of ideological armament was presented to the People's Army.

What's different from 60 years ago, what's the same

The situation now is different from 1963, when Kim Il-sung first presented the slogan of one per hundred.

Most of all, in 1963, it was difficult for North Korea to keep close contact with the Sino-Soviet space under the ideological dispute between Sino-Soviet space.

It is worth noting that Kim Yeo-jung said in a statement on the 27th of last month, “I will always stand in the same trench (trench) with the Russian army and people.”
