A man was sentenced on January 27 by the judicial court of Pontoise (Val-d'Oise) for extortion with a weapon.

He was tried in immediate appearance for events that occurred on October 20, 2022 in Montmorency, reports

That day, the man approached his victim and threatened her with a knife in order to steal her iPhone 14. He then fled with his loot worth several hundred euros.

The victim filed a complaint and an investigation was opened.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect, already known to law enforcement.

The man was called by the police but did not show up.

He was therefore arrested at his home on January 26 and placed in police custody.

During the search of the residence, the police found the smartphone in question.

Placed in pre-trial detention, the thief was therefore sentenced to three years in prison, including one year suspended.

He was transferred to the Val-d'Oise remand center in Osny, where he will serve his sentence.
